Nexus 4 users can install Custom ROMs, kernels and other customization by unlocking bootloader. Unlocking bootloader voids warranty of your device and erases data, so it is better that you try this in new Nexus 4. In this article we will be going through step by step guide to unlock bootloader on Nexus 4 easily.
The guide mentioned is only for LG Nexus 4 and cannot be tried on any other device.
We cannot be held liable of any damage done to your device while following the below mentioned procedure.
Unlock Bootloader on Nexus 4
Take a complete backup of data,apps and settings as the procedure may wipe your data.
Make sure that the battery of device has a minimum charge of 60%.
Enable “USB debugging” on your device by going to Settings >> Developer options >> Enable USB debugging.
Install ADB from here.
Download Fastboot from here (Fastboot.zip). Extract Fastboot.zip to a folder named as Fastboot in C drive.
Switch off device and boot into fastboot mode by holding down Volume down and Power buttons simultaneously till you get “Start” message.
Connect your device to computer using USB cable to install drivers.
Open Command prompt on to your computer and type the following commands and then press enter-
fastboot oem unlock
Your device will now reboot automatically.
To relock the bootloader follow the above mentioned steps but enter “fastboot oem lock” command.
You have unlocked bootloader on Nexus 4. Enjoy.
