Galaxy Nexus users can now install AOKP 4.2 for Galaxy Nexus which is based on Android 4.2 ROM. This is an unofficial ROM developed by a well known developer Roman. The ROM may have few bugs but it will definitely improve the performance of your device.
Let us go through the guide to install AOKP 4.2 on Galaxy Nexus.
This ROM and guide mwntioned below is only Galaxy Nexus model number I9250, GSM version and cannot be tried on any other device. Check your device model by going to Settings » About phone.

Install AOKP 4.2 On Galaxy Nexus I9250
Take a complete backup of data,apps and settings as the procedure may wipe your data.
Make sure that the battery of device has a minimum charge of 60%.
Enable “USB debugging” on your device by going to Settings >> Developer options >> Enable USB debugging.
ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery should be installed on your device. Go through the guide here.
Make sure that bootloader on your device is unlocked.
Download AOKP 4.2 ROM from here (aokp_maguro_unofficial_Nov-27-12.zip) and Gapps package from here.
Copy both the files without extracting to your device SD-Card.
Switch off device and boot into recovery. Hold down Volume down and Power buttons together. Use Volume buttons to select Recovery mode.
Take a backup. Select “Backup and Restore” and then select “Backup” again.
Select “wipe data/factory reset” and confirm to wipe data completely.
Select “install zip from sdcard” and select “choose zip from sdcard”. Navigate to AOKP 4.2 file and select to confirm installation. Wait till installation gets complete.
Select “choose zip from sdcard” again and select to install “Google apps package”.
Select “Go Back” and select “Reboot System Now” to reboot your device.
AOKP 4.2 on Galaxy Nexus I9250 is installed.
